The verdict is in….

My Grandpa, the Alcoholic, went to court and the judge made his decision.

Let’s just say he had a damn good attorney… and she got his last few OWI’s tossed out so this one is like his first offense….

He has to serve two more days in jail, (which because his hand is still in bandages the judge suspended), pay some fines, go to a driving school, and can’t drive for one year….That’s it…

No Community Service, No Probation… I thought they would at least make him do all that…but nope…nada, nothing, zilch…

Grandma said she guesses she will let him live to see 79 - his b-day is in April…. Should be interesting…anyone want to attend his b-day party so I don’t have to go?

*** I should say - I am very much against driving drunk. I.HATE.DRUNK.DRIVERS. I have seen the accidents…etc. My Sister’s MIL was Killed by a DD on my BIL’s (Her son’s) birthday… I think the old man (my gpa) should have to go to jail, and I thought he would…but I guess he had a damn good attorney….

Is that like a DWI? Driving While Intoxicated? I sure hope not. Because I would be ubber pissed if he got off with nothing but a slap on the wrist. That is why people get killed. Because the drunks get away with it. Until someone is killed. I guess he’ll stop driving then.

Sorry about the rant, but that kinda thing gets under my skin.

The problem with most drunks that take someone’s life, is that they don’t USUALLY go with them, there-by leaving them yet another chance to screw up another person’s life. ~ jb///

What really sucks is I’m sure he hasn’t learned and will do it again…

A good enough lawyer can get someone out of anything. The examples are too numerous to mention.
Probably at his age, the verdict was reasonable. What I think is sad is that when he was younger the penalties weren’t more severe.

I’ve often wondered why judges can’t be held responsible if someone who has been “let off” causes harm/death later on.

I’ve also wondered why lawyers who put up such an argument aren’t also held responsible…

I just saw your note at the bottom, I don’t think it was there when I commented, I should say I am furiously against drunk driving as well. It’s my opinion he should be in jail as well, but I was just surprised that he wasn’t.

    Interesting.

My grandpa recently sideswiped a parked car and took off his own mirror and kept going…ummm, we call that hit and run. My grandma had to drag his ass back to the police station.

    Oh, he was totally sober.

It doesn’t matter if you are old or sick or anything else…you must pay for your crime whatever they may be!! It wasn’t fair that he got off so easy. There should have been community service at least.

Age had to be a factor. I think it’s sad when a person receives 2 or more of those. I would think after receiving one a person would do everything in their power not to get another one.

Wow - that is amazing. He really should have been punished more. I hope he learns his lesson.

Drunk driving B.A.D. and extremely dangerous, but you know that!
