surprise… we have company…

My parents stopped by tonight… which surprised me. I knew they would be in the area, but they never talked about stopping in… (and for my parents in the area is anything within a 30 mile radius). The kids were thrilled. They love Grandpa and Grandma.

When she called we were just getting supper ready - Mr. Incredible had steaks on the grill, bread was in the oven - the veggies were simmering on the stove, and the potatoes were done…. but we only had three steaks… so I go through the freezer, find some chicken and toss that on the grill (well Mr. Incredible grilled it) and everything was on the table by the time they pulled in the drive.

My kids were so excited, even though it is 95 degrees out there - they went outside and played catch, watched the kids on the monkey bars/swings and just had a great time. They were only here for about an hour and a half. Tink cried when they left and wanted me to show her on the calendar when we would go see them. Sometimes I am so glad we live as far away as we do, and others I wish we were closer.

We’ve had that happen a couple of times since we’ve moved back to the mid-west. The kids are pretty excited and we pull it off fairly well, but I’m all for moving faaaaar away. It’s tough because I want to be ‘close’ for the kids, but ‘far away’ for me and Dh! LOL.

I love it when my parents visit, whether it’s a planned visit or an unexpected surprise.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to live in the same town with them or anything. And I’m sure they feel the same about me…LOL!

I love when people stop by. Only we live in the country so that hardly happens. How nice that you were able to find some more meat to add to your delicious sounding meal.

Meritt - I think we are on the same page.

blogarita - it would be nice for the kids sake to live closer - but I swear my mother is part jewish - because she can lay the biggest guilt trip without saying a word..

    BF - it was.

    Jennifer - ouch…

Tamara - I dont mind my parents stopping by, I just wish I had a littl warning I would have had enough to feed everyone - it worked out okay -but you know what I mean.

That’s cute how she wanted to see it on the calendar when they would be back.
