phone calls…

Between my cell phone and the four cordless phones we have in the house - the darn things have been ringing off the hook. (Yes, we really do have four cordless phones - what you never misplace a phone?)

But the fact of the matter is - all the calls in the last I’d say 48 hours were bad news. Why do people (okay my family) feel the need to call me when bad things happen. Why can’t they ever call me with good news?

Saturday night at 10:00 pm, my sister L (slightly drunk - can a person be slightly drunk?…hmmm - okay so she was drunk) called. She did have some good news. which was that a classmate of mine was home on military leave, and happened to be in the same place as her - so I talked to him through her (he was talking to her as she was talking to me - why she didn’t just hand him the phone is beyond me. - and no, Mr. Incredible was not upset about who I was talking to - he just hates it when people call after 9:00). This classmate was in every single one of my classes K-8th grade. It wasn’t until 9th that we didn’t spend all day long together. and he was surprised that I still remembered who he was…WTF?

It was nice to hear that he is still around, that he has several kids and has adopted quite a few as well. He came from a HUGE family, so I’m am not surprised at all. Wished him well, and hope that his time with the military will be done soon, so he can be home more often, but I think he is making a career of it. I just hope that it is a long career, and he can enjoy a long retirement with his family.

The second part of her phone call was to tell me about a hometown boy that had died. Her phone call was the 4th phone call regarding the matter. and yes, it was a shock, and yes, I’m sad -
*edited to take out all the personal stuff*

Then tonight she calls again to tell me more not so good news…

…Rest in Peace little man, rest in peace.

Sorry about all the bad news. Hope you get some good news soon…

but on another note, we have a house rule that the phones always go back in their bases when we are done with a call. We never lose them, but it doesn’t really matter, since we get a grand total of about 4 calls a week.
