I can see clearly now…

Well, No, that’s not true - I can’t.

I need new glasses - Why is it that one day - everything is fine, the next - speed limit signs start to get blurry, then the next I can’t read the street names on the signs until I’m almost at the corner. It’s hell to get old.

I’ll have to call on Monday to get an appointment - it will take 3 weeks because of our insurance, and then I have to find a time that I can be gone with my work schedule.

But I should be able to get new frames as well…and that my friends is the fun of it all. I have pretty poor vision without my glasses, they will dilate my eyes, and I won’t be able to see beyond my nose, have me try on frames, and I’ll have to trust what the gal behind the counter says… I’m hoping they will let me take a few home, and Mr. Incredible can help me decide (well actually, I’ll see if he will take my picture, and then I can look and see what works best.) So in about two months, I should have new glasses…but I love having vision insurance, they will pay a portion of my glasses, which even when I get the cheap frames, still cost me an arm and a leg.

Yes, I’m a snob, I have to have the anti-reflective coating, and scratch guard on my glasses. I work with computers, and night driving is sooo much easier with the AR.

and

NO, I do not want contact lenses, I tried, can’t do it.

and

Nooo - I’m not interested in the LASIK surgery - hello - have you watched the procedure? They would have to strap me down…I’d rather have dental work done.

I decided I needed new glasses recently, luckily with our insurance (my job pays all the premiums too) they only took a week.

got some nice Converse half frame jobbies. While looking at frames, the gal kept showing my glasses she thought would suit me. Every pair she picked out was like $700 - $800 a pair over what insurance would pay for.

Ended up on my current ones and in the end paid about $150 extra or the scratch coating and stuff.

If they offer the Optomax test, take it, it is cool seeing your retina on the computer screen.

Optician never mentioned though that the orange dye he put in my eyes made me look like I was wearing make-up when I left!

Maybe you could go pick out your frames ahead of time?

I don’t have a strong prescription, but my vision is changing so rapidly, that I have to get new lenses every year. Our insurance pays a portion toward frames, too. This year, I kept my frames, thinking it would be cheaper, but I was charged $20 extra for them to have lenses special-cut to fit my frames. Had I just gone ahead and found an inexpensive new frames, I would have saved money. :(

I don’t get my eye exam at Wal-Mart, but I always order my lenses and frames there. Much as I dislike them, nowhere else around here comes close to the price…or if they do, they don’t take our insurance.

SG had laser surgery and recommends it to everyone, but I’m just not at that point yet. Maybe someday. I don’t think it would be as bad as dental work…LOL!

I used to think that about contacts too, but trust me, you get used to them.

On the other hand, you are one of those people on whom glasses look really good, so what the hell!

Micheal - Mr Incredible has pretty good health and dental benefits, but the vision isn’t that great - although it is better than nothing!

Blogarita - our insurance doesn’t participate with Wal-Mart Optical. I end up going to a local eye doctor, and get my regular glasses with him.

Mr Fab - you are too nice - thanks!

I just went through all that, my new glasses (with bifocals!!!) were 603$!!! But my vision is still not great and he found I have cataracts so I am really looking forward to that surgery…NOT.

I have been wearing contacts since I was 16. I am tired of wearing them but I can see better with them than my glasses.

I did that last fall. No fun. Maybe they’ll let you look at frames BEFORE they dilate your eyes. I hated trying to pick out frames with super blurry eyes. And then after that, i had to run to the grocery store and found myself asking an older lady to help me read a label once. If I couldn’t see it clearly, i skipped it on my list (that I had memorized).

I really need new glasses, too…my bifocs just aren’t working that well anymore. Tried contacts, but can’t get them to work with my astigmatism. Would LOVE lasik, but **sigh**, no vision insurance. Good luck with yours!! And I totally agree with the frame picking out - hate it!
