If you don’t water a plant long enough - it will start to wilt.
If you still choose to not water it, the leaves will start to yellow.
and then one day - you’ll sit down in your easy chair - and *Poof* it’s dead.
I’m sure that if I googled the type of plant I have, it would tell me how long it would take to achieve this dead state.
Right now, I figure I’m about three weeks away from the ‘*Poof* DEAD.’
I don’t know why I even try to have green plants in my house, I’m thinking it probably needs to be re-potted as well, but it’s so tall I’m afraid I’d break the steams… I have no luck with this stuff.
Damn, Why can’t I be Martha Stewart? or ‘Susie Homemaker’?
Instead I have a dying plant, a messy house, store bought breads, and cookies. I work 40+ hours a week outside the home, and have 50+ hours of housework when I get home. It seems we have a case of the “I might play/need that later, so I can’t put it away” syndrome going on in my house right now. Which has to stop soon, very soon.
I don’t know how these moms do it, the ones that have the perfect house, the perfect made from scratch meal on the table at 6:00 pm every night, and ….
I sooo wanna be them when I grow up…

9:36 pm
I hear “those people” are highly overrated & want to be US when they grow up.
Life’s too short…have some fun while your kids are young!
((hugs))…just ’cause it sounds like you need some.
10:11 pm
I grow some of my house plants in water instead of soil. It takes a LONG time for them to die of thirst.
7:09 am
I think that you do a wonderful job. It is soo hard to ba working mom and I don’t know any working mom who manages to keep an immaculate house and happy, healthy children, and her sanity all at the same time. The way I figure it, if something has to be let go a little, immaculate homes and living plants are overrated anyway.
8:38 am
Eh, it’s just different personalities and talents.
So - don’t worry about it. Stick the plant outside on the deck to fend for itself. Go to JoAnn Fabrics or Michaels and get a realistic looking plant and have those in your house. Seriously - they make them THAT real now. (I have three of them!) LOL.
My friend actually offered to water them for me while I was on vacation.
8:44 am
i hear you sister. being a plant mommy is tough.
7:18 pm
All I can grow are Ivy’s. They tell exactly tell you when to give them water. Otherwise, I kill them.
8:19 pm
Perfection is over-rated.
Besides, most people’s kids never say “boy, I’m glad mom cleaned the house instead of spending time with me!”
(thanks for the comments lately, they’ve perked me up!!)
10:19 pm
I can’t grow anything. I bet weeds would die if I tried to care for them.
I can’t fathom working full time and raising the girls. No way.
And though I do try to make dinner every night (it relaxes me) my house is far from perfect.
Don’t beat yourself up. And although Meritt is right about the “real” fake plants you still have to dust them. Ugh. Skip the plants altogether.
12:19 am
tug - I’m just slightly stressed over a few things…upcoming visitors… ugh
blogarita - hmmm I may try that.
TC - immaculate homes and living plants are overrated anyway… thank you, I needed to be reminded of that.
aka_meritt - My problem is that someone compares me to that perfection every chance she gets….I suppose it would be wrong of me to say - well, my kids can function in the real world, and Pan can (list his accomplishments) when she talks about how she is so lucky to be a SAHM, and she home schools becuase of everything that is wrong with our school system, BUT her kids have NO clue on how to act around other kids….and that she made blah, blah blah for supper… it’s like who in the heck does this? while my kids are eating cereal/lunch meat sandwhices or something simple for supper? somedays I hate neighbors, i let her make me feel two inches tall.
jodes - the sad thing? In College - I worked in a floral shop - and nothing every died. I move in with Mr. Incredible, and I can’t keep a plant alive if my life depended on it… he laughs at this.
Tammy - IVY’s??? those are like the toughest plants to grow and keep alive - they are sooo very touchy.
timestep - thank you - I needed that…. “most people’s kids’ never say - “boy, I’m glad mom cleaned the house instead of spending time with me!”….
jody - Think when this plant dies I’m just gonna skip it. This wasn’t meant at some of the bloggers I read - it more my frustration with a neighbor…and her constant putting me down… in her own little way… “bless her heart”
7:08 am
THose perfect moms are a myth!
10:21 am
I love cacti and succulents. You can forget to water them for a few weeks, and they are still happy.
And a clean house? I think that is only in magazines.
