Camping tips?

Apparently I am going camping next weekend (as in Friday and Saturday) with my kids. Mr. Incredible says he isn’t going with us.

I’ve never ever camped… not in a tent. Got any advice?

Keep in mind, my idea of roughing it is a Super 8. and I never would have agreed to this, except that my sis L (who knows that I don’t do tenting) said that there was a cabin that we could stay in. There is no cabin - eventually there will be a cabin, there just isn’t one there now.

I do know on Friday we are taking the kids to a place that the kids are gonna love - The National Eagle Center. We will be lucky enough to see some of these beautiful creatures up close!

    Holiday Inn girlfriend!!

But, if Mr. Incredible won’t go for it,

run to Target and pick up an air mattress or you’ll have an incredibly sore back.

Cannot help you, only time I’ve been camping in a tent was with my brother in our parents back yard.

NO advice as I do NOT camp!! I did once years ago when I was pregnant, it was miserable! Never again.

I’m not the athletic type…I don’t do camping and have no advice other than room service is expensive so pack your own goodies…

Do you remember my post from last August when we took the kids tent camping?

Did you not learn anything from it?

    LOL.

Just kidding. Just go and wing it. It’s not a big deal and the kids will love it (LOVE IT) even if it’s hot and miserable for you. ;)

Yes, best suggestion is DON’T DO IT. Next one is get yourself an air matress. And, if you can, get a separate tent for you and lock the kids in a different one, preferrably in the back yard while you stay in the house.

Are you cooking over the fire? If so, I would recommend foil packs. They are easy to make…

Pre-cook meat of choice (I’ve used hamburger or chicken).

Mix with cream of mushroom soup, canned sliced potatoes, and other canned veggies of your choice.

Spray a big piece of aluminum foil with Pam Spray, then portion meat and wrap it up. (I would double wrap it, too, then double bag it in Ziplocs, to keep moisture from the cooler out.)

When you are ready, throw them on the fire for about ten minutes and voila. They are delish.

Also, bring some yard guard and bug bombs to treat your campsite for pests.

I love camping.. but you have to have the right stuff or you will hate it with a passion.
1)AIR MATTRESS.. I have the elavated kind so It’s just like sleeping in a bed :)
    2)blankets and pillows for everyone
3)summer cloths incase it’s hot but also some warmer cloths incase it gets cold at night.
    4) Try your hardest to get an electric site.. if you do take a light and a fan(don’t LOL to hard but my DH took a window AC unit with us last summer think we might have been the only people camping with an air conditioned tent SNORT)
    5) fire wood and matches are great but don’t forget lighter fluid to get that fire started.
    6) sticks to roast the marshmellows and all the making for smores they are a great thing to feed the troops before sending them to bed LOL
    7) besides your normal overnight stuff that you would take to a hotel.. don’t forget you will have to bring your own soaps, wash cloths and towels and such
    8) take some a book and card games or something to keep the kids entertained at the campsite
    9) bug spray and suntan lotion.
10)some sort of contaier with a lid on it so racoons or what not will not run off with your food.

I could give you a whole list of everything we take camping.. but it would be a long list.. if you want it let me know and I’ll type it out for you.. but these things should help a little.

have a fun camping trip. OHHHHHHH and btw I have more space and room in my tent then I have seen in any of the little cabins they have at campgrounds(atleast the ones around here)

OHHHHHHHHH and if you get the air mattress don’t forget to get a pump to pump it up also.. they should all be in the same spot at target, walmart or where ever you shop.

I don’t camp anymore, but I recommend you get a big pack of marshmallows, Hershey bars and graham crackers. You gotta have smores!

And have the fun of smores is finding the sticks to roast the marshmallows.

Love, love, love camping! We used to do it every year and then some as kids, and even now I love to get out with a tent and rough it for a couple nights. Eating over the fire. Listening to the bugs at night (outside the tent of course) and waking up really early to a dewing tent and having to pee out in the woods!! Great times! Highly recommend it.
