Our town in on a river, the river is flooding. Flood stage is 12 feet. The water at the measuring point at 1:00 pm was over 16 feet. It should crest tonight at midnight at 18 feet. This isn’t as much water as we got in 1999 - where we had a 500 year flood and then two weeks later had a hundred year flood. But more than what we had in 2004. It still causes a lot of damage, and kinda makes life a little difficult. They’ve closed one of the three bridges - we were actually one of the last vehicles to cross it after getting last minute supplies at wal-mart. If the water reaches 17 feet - they will close the “1st street” bridge, and at 18 feet they close the “2nd Street” bridge. Which means, that until they can be inspected (last time took 4 days) I will have drive 7 miles to the East, one mile south, and then 7 miles west, just to go to Wal-Mart, the grocery store and to work (the 10 min trip just became a 45 min detour) it’s a pain in the butt - but ya know what? I don’t have water in my home, so I’m not going to complain about that - it’s just how life is. (We’ve been to both wal-mart and the grocery store - we shouldn’t need anything from there for a few days),
Have invited our friends who at 11:00 (today) only had 4 inches of water in their basement to our house if they want to stay somewhere. They don’t try to pump it out - because with the type of basement they have, it would cause the walls to collapse. They’ve had water touching up to the top step of the basement never on the first floor. I don’t think they will leave their home. They tend to be protective of what little they have. They wish they could move, they just can’t afford it. I understand where they are in life, I get it. Because I get it, I don’t judge them for their choice of how they deal with the flood. They have a sense of humor, and know that since God has brought them to this point, he will get them past it. (I on the other hand would be cussing and swearing God out - because how could he do this to me? It’s always about me - didn’t you know?) I wonder how their faith can be so strong, they have been to hell and back in their lives, and yet, they believe it will be okay, as long as everyone is safe - its’ okay.
Maybe I’ll get some pictures later….
