It’s a rash?

Pan has a rash – I thought it was heat rash, but now, I’m not so sure….  After a day it’s still here.  and now, he is starting to have a low-grade fever.  Will see what the morning brings… darn it!  They are supposed to go to my parents this weekend.

A tag from Meegan

Meegan at Harveys At Home has tagged me for a Getting to Know You meme. And everyone knows – I love a good meme.

So here goes!

What were you doing 10 years ago?

Ten years ago, lets see – 1998, had been married for two years, living in an apartment in the town we live now, I am guessing I was working as a temp at Regional Airport.

Five things on your to do list

  1. Clean out the kids closets.
  2. Get Pan a new bed and desk. He is going to need a place to do his homework, and it’s time for a new mattress…
  3. clean my house from top to bottom and all places in between
  4. Replace the flooring in our bedroom – I want the carpet gone!
  5. Work on the landscaping in the backyard

What snacks do you like?

I love anything chocolate (big surprise I know), dt. coke, and lately my favorite snack is string cheese!

What would you do if you were a billionaire?

I would take care of all my debts, become a full-time SAHM, and find a cure for cancer. I’m tired of people not winning their battles, it just breaks my heart.

Three bad habits

  1. Eating all that chocolate.
  2. I am the best procrastinator ever!
  3. I don’t always wear my seat belt, (don’t lecture, I’m getting better at breaking this habit)

Five places you have lived -

  1. NE part of same state
  2. NW Part of same state
  3. Central part of same state
  4. Here, and
  5. there (I’ve never lived outside of this state *GASP* but I’ve moved several times!

Five jobs you’ve had

  1. Mom
  2. Floral Shop Clerk
  3. Receptionist
  4. Secretary
  5. Bookkeeper

How did you name your blog?

Mr. Incredible came up with it.

And now, who to tag…. I tag, no one, because the rest of you whine and complain when you get tagged.

But if you want to do it let me know!

and the countdown is on

The kids are just dying to know who their teachers will be for the upcoming school year.

Tink is just sure she will have Mrs. B.  Mrs B was the Kindergarten round-up teacher, and not necessarily the teacher she will get.  She is also sure that they will play parachute every single day in gym class, even though Pan has told her that they only do that once in a while.  She is very confident, she is not worried at all about school, it’s going to be great – just think of how many NEW friends I’ll be able to make!

Pan on the other hand, is not as excited to get back to school.  I think once he knows for sure who his teacher is, than it will be much better.  The “BIG KIDS” at daycare have told them about certain teachers – and so he is a bit worried.  Once he gets into the swing of the school year, life will be great for him.  He loves math, science, and reading.  I hope his teacher can see his gifts, and helps them grow.

The best thing about being a parent is seeing the world through your child’s eyes, and the hardest thing is seeing the looks of wonder, excitement and hope become dim.

Things that I accomplished

I have a certain number of things I need to accomplish today, and in no particular order:

  1. Kids dental appointments – Pan at 1:00, Tink at 1:30. ZERO CAVITIES – Yay PAN & TINK!!!!

  2. Go to the food store, something about eating dry cereal, just for the record, dry blueberry frosted mini wheats – not so good. – Milk, it does the body good!
  3. Go to the Post Office – have three packages that I wanted to mail out Monday, and well – They really need to go out today – Got two of the three mailed… the other one will go out tomorrow.
  4. Take NoSammyNo to the vet – Mr. Incredible is doing this, as it’s at the same time as kids dental appointments. I’m not sure who lost the coin toss. – She went to the vet, they gave her a shot, and some pain meds, and highly recommends that she stay in the kennel unless she is outside to do her business, how long she lives this way?  That is up to us.   Lets put it this way, she is due for her yearly vaccines, and the vet says to hold off on doing those for now.  He’ll let us know, when she is ready for those.

Have an awesome day!

Expect nothing.

So, the kids and I pile into the truck and head to Wally-world, with the intention, of only picking up an oversized envelope, some tape, and Pet Odor remover for the carpet machine. So we head to the Office supply section, why wonder through the whole store, I need three things, and I promised Pan we are going to be quick, just like the other stops we made this morning.

And then I hear my name…

when I turn around I see an old friend who I haven’t seen in one? two? maybe three years. It’s a long long story as to why we don’t talk anymore – and it doesn’t really matter anymore. So we catch up on how her girls are doing, she talks to the kids, and we all just ignore this big elephant that is in the cart – the fact that she and I have not talked, emailed, exchanged birthday cards etc in almost three years. The fact that she asked my opinion on something, and I was honest with her – and when she hung up the phone, she never called again. Not to mention the other issues.

She asked if we could met for lunch – and I said sure, so I finished my shopping. The kids noticed the school supply lists were out and we picked up their supplies. (Teachers are VERY specific these days – when they list the BRAND that we are to purchase, I think that is a bit too far… if I had more than two children – It was bad enough buying 4 packages of Crayola CLASSIC COLOR/WASHABLE/8 PACK. (Why do they need two packages each at the beginning of the year? Yes, they were that specific.)

We met for lunch, caught up on the family. We used to talk everyday for hours on the phone, and email back and forth two to three times a day. We used to finish each others sentences…and now, it was not the same. This time she promised to stay in touch, she promised to send a picture of the girls…. but I’m not holding my breath, I’ve learned to expect nothing.

And Why is it that every time I want to hurry up and get out of the store, do I get the trainee who has been there long enough to be on her own, yet, hasn’t been there long enough to know what the heck she is doing? WHY WHY WHY?

do I bullet this, or just do paragraphs?

Dental appointment changed – We’ll be child free in 2.5 days. The kids will be in heaven for 4 days – they will be able to run, play, and be as loud as they want.

Supper tonight – smoked chicken hindquarters (on the smoker), baked beans, pasta with peas, carrots, corn & peppers, and fresh baked bread (only I’ve been having some issues with the bread lately – doesn’t want to rise – think the yeast is bad – oh well.

And the rain is coming – or I hope it is, as I have pulled the chicken off the smoker, and put the smoker in the garage, because the electrical unit can not get wet. It’s very humid, hot and muggy – but I’m thinking of that very very cold winter, and – this is not so bad.

will have to update about my quick trip to Wally*world this morning… Why do I always pick the lane with the training cashier?

Need to set the table… this domestic stuff is a great gig…to bad I can’t get paid to stay home.

Whew – it’s almost bed time

Ever have one of those -mile-a-minute days, and never leave the house? Yeah, that is what our day was today.
I think I left off with the slip-n-slide. It’s not repairable, but good times were had…and summer is almost over, so we’ll find another one on clearance and have at it.

I almost had supper on the table when Mr. Incredible walked through the door, but the steaks were a little red. I like them pink, not red. (Menu – t-bone steaks, mashed sweet potatoes, mixed veggies, and watermelon.) Then the kids and Mr. I went to the hardware store, and brought home some ice cream from DQ (I LOVE DQ!) and the kids noticed that the neighbor kids were out playing, so they went out…and play they did. I was exhausted just watching. Bonus – the next door neighbor had a baby about two months ago (we weren’t sure if she had had the baby or not) and I got to hold him…such an alert, and healthy little guy. The kids were really patient and kind with the little 2 year old. And I a nice chat with mom. She is back to work (she had no paid time off as she had just started.)

And now, I’m ready for bed. Sounds like the kids are going with my sister to my parents this weekend. Have to wait and see if we can switch around Tink’s dentist appt, otherwise, they won’t be able to go.

Education – do you have it?

It seems to get ahead in the world, education is the key that opens those doors of opportunity. (That and being in the right place at the right time.) These days more and more opportunities are in the IT field. Having a Cisco certification can help seal the deal when it comes down between you or another candidate, that wonderful piece of paper from Cisco can be the difference between flipping burgers for the rest of your life, and having real health insurance benefits, vacation pay, holiday pay and sick pay.

Nine years ago, Mr. Incredible was the go-to guy for my office regarding several computer issues. Can’t get a printer to print, he could fix it. Can’t get this computer to talk to that computer, he could fix it. Now the main office has changed. We have been upgraded to a Cisco network, and most of the problems can be fixed remotely. When we do have problems, we have to have a someone that is Cisco certified do the work for us, either the local computer fix-it guy, or a guy from the home office. What I should do is convince my boss to pay for my Cisco certification and training. Think of how much money that could save our office. Not to mention, how great that would look on my resume. Not only am I a great secretary / bookkeeper / receptionist, but I can step in when the IT guy is on vacation, now that is multi-tasking at its best.

I know Mr. Incredible has looked into Cisco certification in the past, but his work has gotten to be a little busy! Maybe now is the time for me to bring it up, he could take a test later this fall.

And the fun never ends

I’m on the back deck, Glass of ice cold water on the table, my feet up on a chair next to me, and the kids playing on the slip and slide.  Mr. Incredible is at work, and I’m enjoying the peace and quiet that is our yard.

Yeah, what planet do I live on?

There is a chorus of neighborhood dogs that are barking (for no apparent reason) for once it is not JC the dog right next to us (NoSammyNo is sleeping inside.)  The kids are yelling and screaming (you know those high shrill shrieks?  Yeah, I hate them too), and I have issued the “FINAL WARNING!” if they can’t play nice, then they are going to take rests in their rooms until supper.  The whole neighborhood doesn’t need to hear them!  And up the street we have kids setting off bottle rockets, and small firecrackers, I’m guessing it’s the preachers’ kids up the street – just because the smoke is coming from their driveway, I know they are home, and I can hear the daughter.  But I’m not going to report them.  I’ll let someone else ruin their fun – What?  You’ve never lit illegal fireworks when you were 17?  Am I the only one?

I’m working on my sunburn as we speak (I’d say tan, but you’d know I was lying.)  I’ve covered myself in sunscreen so I can spend 30 minutes on the deck.  Sad but true.

And just like that – the fun is over, they have ripped the slip n slide.  Repairable? I doubt it.  It was on clearance for $18 – and they’ve gotten $18 worth of fun out of it, just frustrating that they’ve used it twice, and now it’s done.  The end is almost torn in two, and they have split the seams at the bumpers as well.  UGH!  Why can’t the fun ever happen when Mr I is home?

Childhood is just a fairytale, so why not have superhero parents for their fairytale lives? Characters:
Me - Fantastagirl;
DH - Mr. Incredible;
DS - Pan (9);
DD - Tink (7);
