And the winner of Worst Mother of Year award goes to….
drumroll…..
FANTASTAGIRL….
And why you might ask? Because I have been outsmarted by a 6 year old. Here I was feeling all confident in my parenting abilities, and Tink goes and blows that thought process.
Tink has been complaining lately of a sore neck, a sore throat, a headache, never all at the same time, and always when we say it’s time for bed. A little history - Tink hates hates hates bedtime. She is known for pulling every stunt in the book to not go to bed. You think your kids are talented.. bah.. Tink is the queen of drama.
So Mr. Incredible and I were thinking - No fever, no sick - right? RIGHT… So why the questions…
“GO TO BED TINK”… is something that is heard on a routine basis, and her coming up with something new to whine about always part of the game… until now.
She has started at a certain time each day, to go to the school nurse and complain about a sore neck, a sore throat, or headache - not all at once, but at the same time every day - So this is what we are thinking - 1) she doesn’t want to go to bed, and 2) she doesn’t like to go to math. and the school nurse calls to express her concern… and I say - okay - here is what I’ll do, We’ll make an appointment with the doctor, and rule out everything, anything, and then explain how important it is that she attend math, and school - right? Right. (See I am a good mommy.)
Only - wrong.
We go into the doctor, I talk to the nurse give her the scoop, and she agrees, no fever, no sick. Start talking to the doctor, and she agrees no fever, no sick, but to be safe I agree that we should do a strep test and a mono test (finger poke). Both of us expecting it to come back negative.
Only it doesn’t.
the mono test - positive.
and now we have to draw blood to send off for a liver function, CBC, and a few other items.
Yeah,,,, this isn’t going the way I thought… and we have to wait until Monday for the results and go from there.
Yep, leave it to her take my “I know what I’m doing attitude” and knock it down a notch or two…

Please, how could you have known.
It’s like “Mystery Diagnosis” on Discovery that months or years to diagnose.

Based on the facts at hand, I would have come to the same conclusion. You did the right thing, you checked with the doctor “to make sure”, even if you didn’t believe there was anything wrong. So, see? Good mommy after all.
Now go give that little one an extra big hug for me!

There is noooo way you could have known that. Given her history, I would have arrived at the same conclusion that you did: she was faking it. You get kudos from me for taking her in to the doctor!

That’s what happens when you cry wolf… Noone believes you. Don’t beat yourself up.
Hoping the little one is feeling better soon!

Hey, don’t feel badly. I had Mono in high school and my mom didn’t believe me either. I was almost put into the hospital because my spleen was huge and I couldn’t swallow food. It took month to get well. Hang in there.
