Going back to work today was kinda like stepping into a tornado. I can’t decide if it’s a good thing, that nothing, absolutely nothing got done while I was gone, or bad. Does that mean that they can’t survive without me? Does that mean, that when the cut backs come around again they will keep me? yeah, I don’t know either, but as I was sorting through the stacks of work on my desk (and there were three stacks about 5 inches high), I came to the conclusion, that they can’t get rid of me.
So I do what any superhero would do – I crack open a Diet Coke, and start at the beginning. (DUH!)
By noon, I had several fires put out, and was making a great dent in those piles. Life is going pretty well, and then I get called into one of the boss’s office. Not exactly what I want to do, so for the next 45 minutes I’m in his office, closed door… and closed door is never good, not with this boss. Changes are coming, I’d like to think they will be for the best, but I just don’t know. (How come the seeing the future thing never works for me?)
At 4:00 I get a phone call from my mom, she and the kids have just pulled into town, they are going to unload the car, and meet me at home. I can’t wait to see the kids… walk in the house and am greeted by Tink:
Taking a running jump into my arms – “Momma, you are home! Did you miss me? Where’s Daddy?….”
and Pan being cool – is sitting in his Daddy’s chair – “Hi, Mom!”
and then it starts – the mile a minute talking… the “and then we”; and “I got to feed and eagle”, and “we climbed to the top of a fire tower”… and we made s’mores, and we played in a park, and had a picnic, and we flew kites, and, and, and…. well you get the picture.
The funniest comment was by Pan “I got waterboarded”… not sure what he meant, so like a dumb momma, I asked – when I should have just nodded my head and smiled…. They went tubing down the creek, and they “shot the rapids” and his tube got flipped over – and he got a face full of river water. Asked him how it tasted – “kinda like fish.”…. and he just grinned, not sure if it was because I’m sure the expression on my face was one of ‘how do I not throw up’… or what.
I’m just glad they are home, I’ve missed them!
Had such a great time this past weekend, loved having Mr. Incredible to myself, and not having to cut anyone’s food, wipe anyone’s butt, or get them a glass from the cupboard, or have the conversations that seem to go in circles – “but why?”.
Loved meeting great people this weekend, wish I had the confidence that some of them do. But, I figure life is what it is. At this point in the game, I am who I am, and they’ll either love me, or hate me.
What an amazing group of bloggers – and I loved seeing old friends, and making new ones.
The weekend in one word: FANTASTIC!
